Rural southern Utah is great, but if there is any way to avoid it, try not to go through Salt Lake-- makes Phoenix traffic look tame by comparison-- on your way to the northern part of the state. It may be worse than P-hoe-nix, and THAT takes some doing! I may be biased for having spent many many many miles in stop-and-go traffic getting through the Salt Lake metromegalopolis. After that experience I decided to just keep rolling until I got to Pocatello, Idaho, home of Idaho State University and a swell little town. Ahhh... MUCH better! I've mainly just been rolling up the miles but I did manage a few snaps (below) in rural southern Utah. With regret I passed many of the attractions of southern Utah and may return to them sometime in fall or winter.
